The Weston Road Academy Rainbow Run for Stafford NHS!
Every year Mrs Owen has had the pleasure of organising the fantastic Weston Road Academy Race for Life event. I am sure a large number of you have either attended or donated in previous years. With your generous support, we have raised the most incredible amounts of money and it has been a truly wonderful community event.
Unfortunately, this year, given the current guidance on social distancing and mass gatherings we are unable to run this type of community event. However, I really did not want this year to pass without attempting to pull our school community together to raise some much-needed funds for our amazing NHS.
This year we have decided to support UHNM (University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust) in particular Stafford Hospital. We have set a fundraising target of £1000.
UHNM Charity has a number of on-going projects at the hospital for the benefit of patients and staff that your funds will go towards. These include:
- A memorial/reflection garden where staff and patients can take a break from the clinical setting of the hospital’s wards and departments and pay their tributes to loved ones and colleagues who have passed away
- A breakaway room on Ward 12 (respiratory) featuring soft furnishings where patients and their families can also have a break and some privacy from the clinical setting of the ward
- Dementia-friendly equipment, games, and other materials for the benefit of patients on our two elderly-care wards
- Equipment and improvements to patient/staff comfort and experience as requested by individual wards and departments including improved furnishings and items such as water coolers and fans
I am sure that you will agree that they are all very worthy causes. In order to support these projects we are proposing to hold a virtual 5K charity run and are inviting the whole school community (pupils, parents, staff) to take part by running, jogging or walking 5K from their own homes at some point on Thursday 16th July. Pupils should only take part with consent from their parents. Remember to follow social distancing guidance and always keep 2 metres away from other people from outside of your household.
If you are unable to leave your home we would still love for you to take part by walking/running laps in the garden or around the house (I know doing a thousand 5 metre laps of the garden may seem a lot but it is all in aid of charity!).
If you are unable to take part on Thursday 16th July, you can still participate during that week and make a donation online.
If you have other fundraising ideas that you wish to organise to raise even more funds, and we would encourage you to do so!
All donations will need to be made on the following fundraising page: https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MrsOwen
You can download a back sign here to add your own personal message and then wear with pride whilst taking part in the event. Thank you to Lucy Salwey for designing the poster and Anais Bullock for designing the back sign!
Please do send me any photographs of you taking part in the event so that we can share your brilliant efforts on our school website! My email is email@example.com
Thank you in advance for your support and good luck!
